As many of you are well aware, the rising costs of
gas, electricity, classis dues, general operations and maintenance to
smaller churches like ourselves can be fiscally draining not only to our
funds but in turn to yours.
As an example – Since PSE&G has completed their
final stages of deregulation in the State of NJ, most people have seen a
jump in their heating and electric bills. At the church we have seen a
dramatic increase – to the point where our PSE&G bill is at the level we
spent for the entire year last year and we are not even through the
first 6 months of our agreement.
In light of these situations and others the
Consistory has been challenged to find more creative ways to raise money
and save money. So we would like to introduce an exciting new program
called “eBay for Allwood”.
Many of you know that eBay is a safe, viable, and
profitable way of selling items “on line”. Pastor Cari calls it a
“cyberspace garage sale”! Your items are available for anyone to view
“on-line” 24 hours a day. No house visits, no phone calls, no worrying
about the weather! eBay for Allwood is set up and monitored by the
Consistory. Here’s how it works and how you can both help the church
and benefit yourself.
Do your spring cleaning! Any items – from dishes
to electronics – with a value of $50.00 or more will be accepted.
Notify the church office that you have items for sale (call
973-777-7360). The item can be brought to the church and photographed.
Your items are then listed on eBay. The buyer notifies the church and
arrangements are made for the item to be shipped (also done by the
Consistory) or picked up. The church will take care of all interaction
with the customers.
Now, here’s how everyone wins! The buyer gets a
desired item. The seller gets more space in their home, receives a
check for 75% of the purchase price (minus the minimal eBay selling
fees), and a tax deductible donation statement for the remaining 25% of
the purchase. This 25% of the purchase price, goes directly the
churches general operating fund. Think about it! When was the last
time you received a tax deduction for cleaning the basement!
With spring approaching and those attics, garages,
and basements overflowing – please consider helping the church get “eBay
for Allwood” up and running and our heating bills paid!
