Labyrinth Ministries

What is a Labyrinth?

A labyrinth is a gentle tool that aids in mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. At first glance, a labyrinth looks like a maze, but it’s not. A maze is designed to challenge the mind with twists, turns, and dead ends. A labyrinth has only one winding, meandering path to the center and then back out again, with the intent being to quiet the mind and soothe the spirit within. There are no tricks, and the only surprises are those discovered along the journey.

How does a Labyrinth work?

In the physical sense, a labyrinth is a centered, balanced, usually circular design either drawn or constructed on the ground. It is a container, with boundaries, a beginning, a center, and an end. Its winding path invites one to walk into a symbolic world that has been set aside as sacred space.

In the spiritual sense, a labyrinth is a valuable aid that assists in the deepening of one’s spiritual life and relationship with the Divine. By accepting the invitation to walk the path, one renews their hope and faith in in the process of the spiritual life.

The Allwood Community Labyrinth welcomes all, regardless of race or religious faith to come and walk every third Thursday evening from 6-9p.m. at Fellowship Hall and The Healing Place, located in the Allwood Community Church (on the corner of Chelsea and Merrill Roads) in Clifton, New Jersey. For more information, please call (973) 777-6360 or email jim@allwoodcommunitychurch.com.
